will the Plasma tvs and lcds last?
ive heard that the bulbs and stuff burn out in them. ive heard you cant smoke around the plasma tvs cause over time the tobacco will screw up the plasma jell. what is the real deal? can someone help me before i chunk out a good 800 bucks?

Plasma is going to be a short-lived technology like Beta video recorders. LCD is old technology. The bulbs are charged gas lamps that go through over 130 processes in manufacturing. Like any man made item, there can be a bad apple in every barrel. The highest rating for the bulbs are 4000 hours but usually they will last about half of that. Bulbs cost between $200-600.
DLP is the wave of the future. This is the one you want to spend your money on. Plasma TV usually last for up to 10 years. Other than that, I don't know. CRT (tube) television actually lasts the least longest at ~50,000 hours, while plasma is supposed to last even longer at ~60,000 hours, and LCD ~65,000 hours. If you are concerned about it, get an extended warranty.
