why is my flat big screen tv so damn hot.......its like having a heater in my house?

Let me guess... you have a plasma screen TV, right? The reason for your TV getting hot is the technology that allows the TV to work. Basically, a plasma TV works by shooting electrical current through an ionized gas (plasma) to release a photon of a specific wavelength. There are thousands and thousands of individual pockets of plasma (pixels) on your screen and they all have electrical current shooting through them (very small amps, no danger). The reason for the heat is the resistance in the wiring for this type of television. As you run the television, more and more heat is dispated due to electric current running through really small wires (kinda like a lightbulb).
