The CRT wins this comparison hands down! Here, I'll break it down for you.
Longevity- CRT's will deliver a crisp, clean picture with true blacks and vibrant color for well beyond 60,000 hours and do it trouble free. Consider that compared to the $200 a bulb replacement cost for ANY and ALL LCD, Plasma and DLP sets currently made as the arc lamps used in these last on average 18-24 months before failure.
Cost- That's an easy one, especially when you consider the 'hidden' costs of those bulb replacements. Heck, even one at that price blows the price point off the map!
Picture quality- Ask any expert (This doesn't include sales people, lol) and they will tell you that CRT simply can't be beat until you enter the upper end of the market and that starts at about $3000...DEFIANTLY not an easy fit on your budget or mine. Forget what the sets look like in the store as it's common knowledge the 'Brick and Mortar' stores intentionally send inferior signals to all but the units they're trying to push, ie; Plasma, LCD and DLP though only the mid to upper end price wise on these as well. Trust me, when you get the set home it's a different ball game, the difference almost magical.
In the end the CRT will provide a far greater 'Bang' for your buck, and will continue to do so for a long time, long enough for the current technology to shake the bugs out and become truly dependable as well as affordable.
