I got this error message after hooking up the cables to my hdtv. I upgraded my cable box so i could use the dvi/hdmi conversion cable.Whats the problem?

Apparently just having an HDMI connector is not enough anymore. You have to have an HDCP compliant HDMI connector! It sounds like your HDTV does not have an HDCP compliant HDMI input. Check with the manufacturer of your set. There may be a firmware upgrade that takes care of this problem.

Unless it is an old HDTV, I doubt it does not support HDCP.
Some old HDMI chips are very peculiar.
The problem can actually be with the set-top box as much as with the TV itself. Verify with the TV manufacturer (or look at the specs) that the TV is HDCP compliant. An older set may not have that feature. If the TV is HDCP compliant, call the cable company and report the problem.
