With large screen TVs is there any way to display "Closed Captions" below the picture instead of on top of the picture? So captions are completely off of the picture and not blocking any portion of the picture.

No. Depends on the programming, sometimes the caption is on top or below. You can always turn off the caption. If your captioning is being generated by the television there may be a setting in the TV to change that. If the captioning is being generated by a SAT/cable box, there might be a setting there too. You will want to check for both, if it applies. Do a Google search for your model and include "secret menu" or "hidden menu" in the search. Hope this helps. Mike
p.s. I discovered (on some cable boxes) that, if you hold the menu button when the unit is off, and then turn it on , will go to a hidden menu with font and placement of caption settings. in philips tv i have seen such a feature that you can shift the entire picture up and the captions are displayed on black horizontal bar
