Why does the volume double when the adds are on TV?

By law TV ads cannot exceed a certain volume, i.e, that which is above the normal programme volume you are watching. However, adverts use something called "compression" . This increases the amount of sound without increasing the volume. You experience the same thing when a group of people are all talking at the same decibel level, i.e, the amount of sound is very high compared to a single person talking at the same decibel level. There's no increase in sound, just more of it. In a nutshell it gets around the law in a very crafty way. OK? to get your attention I've always thought the volume doubles during the ads so that you can go & make coffee/tea and still hear the tele from the kitchen. Then you know when Coronation Street restarts! to wake you up again from some of the boring repeats that we seem to get theses days probably to waken you up the programmes are such crap Because the idiots at the TV companies think it will draw your attention so that you buy the crap that's advertised thus increasing the advertisers profits =more revenue for the TV companies so they can put on more sh*t programmes so you can still hear the ads while you're on the john. LOLOL

bad editing and mixing (lack of equalizing the show volume with the commercials) get a tv with an automatic volume control of comercials To make sure you don't miss it. the advertisers are in cahoots with the battery producers cos everytime they come on you've got to reach for the RC and waste battery power putting the volume down then back up So Barry Scott can shout even louder to say BANG! ... and the dirt is gone. Asshole. Its to get your attention & its also against broadcasting rules, Sky & C5 got told off bout it earlier this year I've heard on a radio phone in that it doesn't actually turn increase the volume but its the sound intensity that is raised. Meaning that there is more sound per second or something like that. Personally I think that's a load of rubbish, and we're always turning down the tv for ads. advertising ploy. The company"s buying spots (air time) are paying a very high price. They wont there commercials heard. It is aginst the law for stations to increase the volume. But they get by with it because the FCC can't control all the thousands of stations. I am told that the FCC only consist of 12 members, I don't know if this is true or not, but think of the job they have trying to control the airways. because most often when adverts come on people leave the room for the toilet ,drink,food etc... so they raise the volume so you can still hear the advertisement! It's so the advertisers can get your attention, something that's been agreed to make you look at the screen.

There was talk a few years ago to put a device to stop this and even take the adverts out but for obvious reasons it didn't happen

Jeff so that you sit up and notice or you know when to channel hop through the ads. they are sooo boring My TV has got AVL (Automatic Volume Limiting) and this makes sure that all transmissions received are at the same volume. We have 2 televisons in the house that have AVL. It is becoming more common a lot of TV sets.
