Why does my tv get so much louder when it's on commercials?
It only happens on certain channels. Is it my tv or the channel I'm watching? It drives me insane!

It's the channel you're watching. There is a limit on how loud broadcasters can transmit audio signals. Normally, during a regular show, the loud noises are loud and the soft noises are soft. On commercials the loud noises are no louder than loud noises on shows, but what they do is raise the volume of the softer noises using devices called 'clippers' so that it 'seems' like it's louder overall. The whole idea of a commercial is to get your attention. yeah thats a pain in the *** its the network thats running the commercials. shows and movies are set on a certain decible level while commercials are recorded on a different decible level, its the service providers responsiblity to adjust the volume control through muxes and adjusting the decible levels in the head end!! Now ya know!!! it's not just you.

my guess is the work of satan, perhaps. It's actually a good trick by the advertisers to get your attention. All they need is to get your attention for a split second and hopefully it will interest you enough to continue watching the commercial. I believe it happens to everyone, just so that the commercials can get your attention.
