720 P? 1080P? I have a question about these resolutions on LCD TVs?

Does the 1080P actually have better picture quality? Or is it just a larger resolution because the Picture size is larger? im lookin at a 32" 720 P and a 1080P 46" LCD T.Vs

1080p is better because it contains more resolution. It's not upscaled from 720p. It contains original picture data that fully represents 1080p. The problem is that there is very little 1080p material. Right now, just Blu-Ray and HD DVD are 1080p.

The difference between P and I is Progressive and Interlaced. In Laymans terms, Progressive means a full frame of 1080p resolution between motion and the next frame. Interlaced is two frames weaved together of the current frame and the next frame. In other words, progressive is better. Good question. The best answer I can find is here:

Picture quality displays best at a higher resolution. 1280 pixels X 720 lines (1280x720) and 1920 pixels x 1080 lines (1920x1080) are formats of resolution measurement.

The 1080p would be the higher quality image.

Consider the video source when making the decison, Blu-Ray and HD DVD would be examples of 1080p video sources, while most, if not all current over the air HD programing sources broadcast at 720. But there is always tomorrow to look forward to..

Personally, i'm looking at 1080p sets only. 1080 gives you 360 more lines to create the picture, so it can bring up detail that the 720 line tv cannot..On smaller sets like the 32", your eyes may not be able to see detail that small to warrant a 1080 line display, so they won't use it for that reason. That's why you use it on 46 inch sets as the pixel size would be large enough for you to see the change in detail.
