1080i upconversion home theater system w/1080p TV?
Hi i just purchased a 1080p LCD tv and a home theater system that is 1080i upconversion. Should I have bought a 1080p home theater system or does it matter? Thanks.

Let's break down the Home Theater into smaller pieces..
DVD player : While the Upconversion player is a good choice, it's job is to take Low Definition DVDs and change the signal to a 1080i output.this doesn't really make the picture HD, it makes it work on a HD TV set..So, when you get the money to do so, select an HD-DVD player or a Blu-Ray to get actual HD DVDS to work on your TV set...
Audio amps : It's good to get a Dolby 5 amp because Dolby 6 and Dolby 7 do not have ACTUAL discrete channels of sound driving the extra speakers...On Dolby 6, they take the Rear Channels and blend the left/right speaker audio with a microprocessor to fill in between the two...
The same applies with Dolby 7 but the speakers are the front/back speakers they blend..
They actually extend the Dolby 5 experience..but all TV channels will only output a Dolby 5 signal at this time.
It's too bad Dolby 6 and 7 don't really use a separate channel to drive the extra speakers.
So I select a Dolby 5 as the minimum I want in my home, and the 6 or 7. I would buy if its the better price.. Doesn't matter since HDMI is so buggy to start you will want to run a HDMI cable from your DVD that supports 1080p( if you have one) directly to the TV. If it doesn't support 1080p run thru the receiver( (set the DVD resolution to 720p output) . You will most likely have to run a separate audio cable set to the receiver anyway. Fully doesn't matter, there's no 1080p content
