it all depends were you live...I have several choices...and that it cool... A couple of tin cans with some string. If you have cable or DSL for your computer, Vonage is the way to go for cheap. It's only 19.99/mo for unlimited calls ANYWHERE in the US. We use it and love it! I agree, AT&T is awful. When you leave them, you have to get rid of your DSL, since they make you have the phone package to get DSL.
I tried Vonage, but it was too unreliable.
Then I went to my cell, but calls dropped at the most inopportune times.
I ended up getting MCI's Neighborhood. Unlimited calls and calling features anywhere in the US.
The cost is $49.99 a month, however their Customer Service is outsourced to India. They will give you full month credits every time you call with a complaint or question. I have been paying between $7 and $15 a month for my service!
