With cell phones and computer phone connections, do we really need land lines?

I believe technology will rule out landlines eventually, just like Beta, VHS, just to name a few......... you dont havet to but home lines are Always charged you cant forget to plug them in and Thar's not as much static with home lines Cell phones and computer connections are not reliable enough for me yet. Also, they havent perfected (in some places haven't even started) the use of adequate 911 emergency call tracking for cell phones and computer connections.
What if your power goes out? VOIP (Vonage, etc.) wont let you make a call (needs electricity.) Land line (POTS) phones that arent wireless WILL allow you to call when the electricity is out. Cell phone service can be disabled much more easily than standard land-line phone service (think back to September 11th, 2001.)
Just some things to think about before you sing the praises of cell phones and VOIP. I don't have a land-line for over a year now...I just was sick and tired of paying all them add fees and taxes....My VoIP is crystal clear, better then a land-line...all my family and friends have the same provider....if the power should go out they will switch me automatically to my cellphone....my town is set up for E911 Exactly. true landline is pointless, over-priced and more unreliable than VOIP. With any wireless technology you still at some stage of the process rely on land lines. Be it I.P based , D.S.L etc you need a land line to the exchange. Cable , Fibre optic etc etc all get back at some point .Land line does not necessarily have to be copper cable. Even direct satellite to subscriber connections still have a land line at the satellite earth station. Granted these are not the average twisted pair copper cable lines. These are dedicated high speed , low noise lines. Your cell phone , cell site is connected to other cell sites & ultimately a master cell controller all via land lines i.e a transportation medium of some kind that connects from point A to point B or multipoint topography. There will always be a need for land lines , pure radio transmission cannot meet the bandwidth hungry demands of the modern world & even if it could there is simply just not enough radio frequency spectrum to go around.
