Why cant you keep your phone number when you switch to a different company?
Why cant you keep your old land line phone number when you switch to a different phone company after the number has been disconnected for months? Its not used by any one else, its just disconnected.

The local phone company is very stingy with their numbers.
If you want to keep the same number, call your local company and get new service. Request your number (don't tell them that you had it before). Request a dial tone and nothing else.
Call the company that you want to switch to. Give them your dial tone number and tell them you want to switch over. Hi! I was able to transfer my number from one company to the next with no problem. Maybe go online to the FAQ's of whichever company your switching to, send them an email? Good luck. :) You should be able to use your old number. Especially if it was in your name. You may have to contact your old phone company. u can u have to ask for it to be the same or w.e yes, you can...its called porting your number...you even can do that with your cellphone number...not to many ppl no it...but its the law now...some phone co. drag there feet, and let you wait a month or so...some are fast and some are just nasty about it, 'cuz they don't wanna loose you as a costumer... depends on the company you are switching to. It depends on where you are moving. If you are moving to a different zone, then yes you have to change.
