What are the benefits of VoIP vs. Landlines?
Want to get VoIP with Earthlink, but want to know the cons and pons.

Earthlink has a very good voice...I almost sign up for it! but I got Packet8, and I'm very happy...
pros: cheaper then landline...not so many taxes,
cons: need high-speed Internet, and if you don't have a backup power-supply for your computer....you got no service.....but in all that time I had VoIP, I only had a 15 minutes power failure...I have a 4 hour power backup...since I work from home...my town is wired for E911...and if the power goes out...all my phone calls go automatically to my cell phone...this service is free from my provider.... Pros: Its cheaper than landline with all the same features and unlimited calling long distance.
Cons: Wont work if power goes out, you have to have high speed internet Landlines will in only some cases, let you call for FREE..Like some landlines have FREE Local calling packages. Besides that landlines user the old traditinal PSTN line to make a call which cost a lot to mantain. Of course the companies pass the cost to you and it becomes a costlier affair.
In case of VOIP, there are many ways to connect a call..either you can call from PC TO PC which is completely free since there is no telecom medium for connecting calls and for PC to Phone is cheaper or FREE for some countries.
