Cheaper phone options besides vonage?

i'm not comfortable with the 911 issues with vonage. i know that you can register for 911, but if you dial 911 and can't speak, they can't automatically find your address if you have moved. so, other than vonage, are there any other cheaper options for landlines? we currently pay $40/month and use cells for long distance.

http://www.magicjack.com/site/index.html... Not true about the phone being out if the internet it. My internet was out several hours yesterday, and my phone was perfectly fine. My cable company gave me a modem that handles the net and phone.

I've had my cable and net go out, but my phone work.

Oh.. ok... I didn't realize vonage was different. vonage is internet phone but a rip off if u ask me..I have internet phone combined with broadband and cable...its only 30 bucks a month with or with out the package .. I have insight communications but they are only in about 7 states... check your local cable companies see if they offer phone service.. I get free longdistance and the 911 is traceable unlike vonage. At&t was rippin me off so i went with the cable company that cut my bill in half from 60 to 30 per month Voange is not cheap. ...but, the features a great!! between the E911 fee and the other taxes and fees...its about 31 to34 dollars a month! depends in what State you live. I use Globalinx. I had vonage and left because the calls kept getting drooped. I have been with Globalinx for 8 months and have not had a problem yet. The plans are either $24.99 a month or $199 up front for the entire year. And you can choose between a DTA box like vonage has or a videophone. Its going to be cheaper than any land line, but as technology improves landlines are going to get more expensive as they become less desirable. I hope this helps Also, with Vonage, if you do not like the service and decide to cancel it, you have to get a new landline number. Landlines can't port numbers from Vonage.

Vonage is very difficult to cancel.

For cheap, all inclusive landlines, try MCI.
