Call my own phone?

When I was a kid we used to dial a certain number (not our phone number) & hang up, then our own phone would ring, then we would talk to each other over the extensions. My grandson wants to do this, but I can't remember the number. Does anyone know the number?

them days are over.you cant do it anymore.only the phone repair guys can do it!! I think it was 11911 if you can still do it... its not that ur calling ur own number its just becuase when u dialed any number it would phne back cuz u dial so many numbers so fast it does that to me too wow its not that there is a number.. that you have to remeberr.. loll I remember it as a 3 digit number and at the tone another digit. That 3-digit number is not same for all tel. providers, it varies from one to another.

The best way is to contact the tel. provider of your area call the services and they will give you the 3-digit number. Ringback in most Central Offices is now non-existant. It is also (where it does work) different for most areas. I use my cell to call my home phone if I want to check it out. Phone repairmen can have the test board call them back, but the old 'dial it yourself' ringback is for the most part, history!

If the ringback number for your NPA is not listed, try common ones such as 114, 951-xxx-xxxx, 954, 957 and 958. Also, try using the ringback numbers listed for other NPA's served by your telephone company in at&t areas I can dial 1958-then either the last four of your number or the full 7 then hook flash and you'll hear a different tone then hang up and you may get a ring if you do it right. the tone you should hear is like a higher pitched dial tone .
