Bt phone number "recycling" (read on)?

Hi,My number was a "recycled" BT number(it used to be a business number) and Im told it was recycled only after 12mths...should they not have waited longer...Im trying to complain as I keep getting loads of calls looking for the business.which is annoying and an invasion of privacy.

BT have offered to change my number but I am trying to get some money back from them for the inconvenience,and the fact that Ive been emailing and writing for the past 12mths and they havent replied and they never return my calls.

Where do I stand is there a legality that I can get em with(i.e theyr not allowed to recycle business numbers before2yrs have passed)-if so where can I view it?

While it's probably true that they have no legal obligation to pay you, I would consider taking the case to OFCOM and explaining the predicament BT have placed you in. It's worth writing a letter detailing the inconvenience you've sufered, and stress the trauma it's caused, in particular how they've failed to deal with your complaint effectively. Enclose copies of all correspondence you've sent / received (including emails) and put a figure on a "gesture of goodwill" that you would find acceptable under the circumstances.

I work in a Telco company (Virginmedia/ntl:Telewest) and believe me, having worked on the complaints team we don't half sit up straight/pay attention when the Ombudsman comes a knockin..Usually they'll just pay out a negotiated amount to "repair relations" with the Valued Customer. Well worth a try, but don't waste any more time talking to BT over it..
