Do you have one or more phones ? if more than one are they all faulty ? if not it could be the actual phone that's at fault.
Ps. it sounds like its just the phone that's faulty as the internet is still working. Go back to BT tell them you've done all the things they've stated and see what they suggest. Try and keep a record/ print out so that as someone suggests something you've already tried you can read it out.
DIY stores sell approved sockets. Have you more than one phone? are they all hung up properly? A phone "off the hook" or faulty will cause just that problem. If you still have internet then the line is ok, or possibly there is a wire off at the exchange
