The Palm Pilot was developed in 1996 by the team of Jeff Hawkins, Donna Dubinsky, and Ed Colligan who founded Palm Computing. Earlier attempts at handheld organizers were made by Go Corporation and Apple Computer. Pilot Pens filed a lawsuit to prevent Palm from using Pilot in their name. The operating system used in Palm's handheld devices was adopted for use by Sony on their Clie S300/E handheld in the 3rd quarter of 2000. Palm, inc has created the palm pilot. Sony has only used it for its Sony Clie handhelds
