If you are talking about the internal battery that keeps your info if the rechargable battery runs down, then I sent my HP in for service. The inside is microscopic and even if you successfully get the back off without damaging the unit, you most likely won't have the expretise or tools to remove and replace the battery. Besides, you can't find the battery anywhere....it'll cost you about $25 + labor. Below is the site I used, and they did a great job for me. Zire 71 does not have removeable battery, hence no instructions can be found.
You can open the back and try to figure out on your own what type of battery is needed. You will most likely need soldering iron as the battery contacts will most likely be soldered in place.
