Blackberry pearl question..?

i just got my phone and im not sure why it does this but when i go to see my messages there not there after awhile it like deletes them on its own and also what does holster means?? and can u set a ringer for when someone calls u private or not? is the pearl actually a good phone to have

I can think of three reasons why this might happen. First, the emails might be getting deleted on the server and the BlackBerry is just staying synchronized with the server.

Secondly, your Pearl may be short of memory. Have you taken pictures, installed software or themes or music or movies? One of the things the device will do to give you more memory is to delete "old" messages.

Thirdly, check your email settings. Under General Options, there is an option called "Keep Messages". Mine is set to "30 Days". Yours could be set to a smaller value.

I'm not sure if your Pearl came with one, but you can buy a holster (i.e. a carry case) for your Pearl. You can set various options, like "only vibrate" when it is in the holster (so that it doesn't vibrate in your hands while typing).

To accomplish this, BlackBerry "holsters" contain a magnet in them that aligns with a sensor in the phone so it can tell when it is in the holster.

I'm not sure what "private or not" means.

You can certainly set up a ring tone for when someone calls you or SMS messages you or Instant Messages you or whatever. You can have this apply globally, or you can change the settings for individual contacts. So, for example, your mom could have a special ring tone.
