Why wont the dvd's I burn play in my dvd player?
I just started burning dvds and I am using dvd-r because I have other burned movies I got from friends that are dvd-r and they play in my dvd player, for some reason the movies that I have burned will not play. A couple of the movies have been .avi The movies will play in my computer but not my dvd player, Do I need to convert the movies to mpg?

If you're burning the AVI file direct to the DVD then it won't play on your DVD player as what you have created is a Data DVD containing an AVI file not a Playable Video format DVD.
A video DVD contains a folder called VIDEO_TS which contains .VOB and .IFO files which contain the actual video and menus encoded in DVD player format. It also contains a folder called AUDIO_TS which must be present but is always empty.
You need to use a DVD mastering tool such as Nero Vision Express which takes you through a wizard process where you import the AVI / MPG file, split it into chapters and then create a disk menu. Once your happy with everything it goes of and encodes the .VOB and IFO files for you which you then burn to the VIDEO_TS folder on a blank DVD using your favourite burning software.
Once you've burnt your DVD stick it in the player and enjoy. dis might be coz u dont burn ur dvd's properly.
and if u burn music files, then there is a chance that ur dvd player isn't compatible with music files. What you need is something that creates a "true" DVD. You should have gotten something like Roxio's DVD Creator with your computer. When you select it you have to make sure that you are not creating a "DATA" DVD. A "DATA" DVD will not play on a DVD player. You need to select the "DVD Builder".
The DVD builder will allow you to name the DVD and add a menu for each of the ".avi" files that you want to include. You drag them on to something that looks like a "strory board". Once you have the file on the "story board", you should be able to click the "burn" Icon and then wait.. It takes a bit longer to create a real DVD as compared to a "DATA" DVD.
