Why does my DVD player, always say "no disc?"?

No matter how new the disc or how many times I use the "disc washer" it keeps coming up "no disc" or "still reading" and then (finally) "no disc". I have to keep opening and closing it until (15 minutes later) it finally "catches." My DVD player is only about 2 years old. Help, please

If you are using an older DVD player (and 2 years old is quite old for a DVD in constant use), then it could be that it's just built up so much dust over the years that it has trouble reading the DVDs.

If you feel confident, take the DVD player apart and clean the Laser-Head with alchohol. This normally does the trick. If of course that still does not work, it's because the head has lost it's "tracking" over the years (DVD players sadly do not last forever).

You can by relativly good, all-round players for very little money these days. May be worth investing in a new DVD player (you'll also get all the advantages that newer players have, such as better software that can read MP3s, Divx etc that your old player might not have had).

Hope that helps! the dvd reader must be sensing something on the dvd and if it senses something abnormal itwill come up saying no disc. mine did this and still does occasionally. its frustrating but the tech told me that it was the reader that was reading things incorrectly. i think the problem is with the reading mechanism on your DVD player. you can try buying a lens cleaning kit and running it on the system. that will clean up the lens if there is dirt covering it.
