505watts RMS? What does this mean?

OK so i am looking to buy the z-5500 by logitech. It says it has 1010 watts total power. and 505watts RMS and 188watts RMS for the sub. What is RMS? Is 505RMS alot?

RMS is a mathematical term. It stands for Root Mean Squared. It's sort of like the term "average".

Using your example, 1010 watts is the absolute max. At this output, the amp sounds like total distortion, so you never want to go there.

Also, an amp can't pump out max power all the time. It can only do it in short bursts. Thus, the "average" power output is a more useful measure.

The problem with quoting watts is that it only describes power or loudness of the music, but it does not describe the quality of the music.

One of the best amps ever made (the Mark Levinson) is so incredibly awesome, shakes the house with bass, and is only 100 watts!

A lower power amp, but high quality will produce cleaner bass, better stereo separation, and overall sound better than a higher wattage amp of lesser quality.

Total Harmonic Distortion is a useful measure of quality. You want this to be a small as possible. it is way to measure power output...

Voltage and current are related with power ( whose unit is watt ), ie power = voltage* current. 505 watt rms is enough. but I don't know your demand.
