Will an unlocked mobile work with networks in countries in north africa?

If the mobile doesn't work, does this mean that a person has to buy a new mobile when visiting north Africa.

yes it will An unlocked mobile phone will work on any network in any country as long as it is dual band which will work in most countries or tri band that can be used all over the world it will, just make sure it accept N africa's frequency. there are 850, 900, 1800, and 1900 mhz. check your phone and see if your specs match n. africa's frequency, the phone's frequency usage is written in your user's manual.

(ex: if a phone has 900/1800mhz frequency coverage, it cant be used in USA since they use 1900mhz line there)

btw it really doesnt matter if your phone is dual, tri or quadband as long as it runs on compatible frequency. of course a quadband is the safest since its compatible with all frequencies mentioned above, but it doesnt mean others cant be used

goodluck Should not be any problem. Mobiles that work in the UK must work in North Africa.

If you have your mobile unlocked, when you visit the country, load it with a local SIM and it should immediately detect network and be able to make calls.

If in a rare scenario, this takes time/does not work; go to the network settings of the mobile and choose manual. The phone will then search for networks available, when you see the network you want, select it and voila! your phone works!
