Why doesn't my cell phone work very well in my basement?
I got a phone call a few minutes ago and the caller wasn't able to hear my voice. Should I leave for work and try to call them back? I've been up most of the night but I guess I should leave for work soon anyway.

Cell phones recieve and send to local towers strategically situated around the area. If you're in what is called a "fringe area" ( just barely within range of one of the towers ), any obstruction will cause the signal to break up. Inside in a basement, the signal has to be strong enough to get through the walls and some of the dirt around the basement walls. The signal will probably be better upstairs.
