Why does my Treo by Cingular lock up?

If you don't have all the most recent firmware installed, you can experience some "buggy" activity.
Backup all your information before doing anything. Go to Palm.com and download the latest firmware edition for your Treo (also called the "updater"). Follow all instructions EXACTLY. Also be sure to check your current firmware version before beginning the process to be sure you NEED an upgrade. The effect will be the same as a hard reset on your Treo, but if you follow the instructions you should be able to restore your original programs and preferences.
It's not a simple process, but it will help with the issues you currently have. I had this problem with the Treo 600 (before the hard 'hang up' button arrived with the Treo 650 model) and again with the 650 (before I did the firmware update). Once the firmware was in place, there were no such issues.
The other responder was correct, however -- if you have a piece of "buggy" software installed the problem may reappear -- so you may want to test the phone before restoring all your programs. If you have it working before doing the restore, and it gets buggy again afterward -- the problem is with a piece of software.
If that's the case, you will need to add back the software one piece at a time. I recommend doing a hard reset first -- so there are no "remnants" of old programs that you can't see that are affecting your Treo's OS.

So try uninstalling any recently downloaded software. Also I occasionally do a soft reset of my Treo. Its a mini-computer and has memory that can get "gunked up"..hope this helps..Schteve
