A friend gave me a nextel phone, I have cinglar can I use the phone??

A friend of mine gave me a nextel phone seeing as how my cingular phone is just about shot and I needed a new one. She said that it should work since it uses a sims card just like my cingular. when I put the card in it says to enter special code. What is this and how do I find it, I entered my code for my cingular phone (my security code) but that's not it. does anybody know if I can use the phone?

No. It will NOT work. Cingular/AT&T's phones and network are GSM. Nextel's phones and network are iDEN. While both use sim cards, they are still two different technologies and are not compatible with each other. Even if you get the Nextel phone unlocked, it will not work with Cingular/AT&T or any GSM carrier. iDEN phones can only be used with an iDEN provider, and GSM phones can only be used with a GSM provider. you probably won't be able to use the phone because it's not through cingular. most cell phone companys won't activate the phone at all if it's from a different company. No, two different phone carriers. has to be programed by a cinglar personel you need to get the phone unlocked by nextel in order for it to work
