What is the difference between digital and analog camcorders?
I want to buy one and I don't know the difference between them? Newer "digital" based cams that record to mem stick are a joke ATM, trying to be all in ones ( with camera still duty ) leads to resoltion / time comprimises. They are ok for web uplods were hi quality is not a factor, but I would never use them for anything serious.|||i like the digital ones because one time you buy a memory and its enough . its very easy to send them to pc and make dvd or cd's of them or a nice album and ... and for sure you can edit them whith nice programs :)
Without getting into the technology too much, an analog camcorder will record the sound and video to magnetic tape, like a VHS tape. A digital records to computer memory. If you are planning on transfering the videos to your computer and burning cd'd or dvd's out of them, go with the digital. If you don't have a computer, go with the analog.
digital ( DV ) also records to tape, they just do not use the nalog method that older cam corders use. most all DVd cams use a 1394 ( firewire ) connection to the computer and thus a digital connection and no generational loss when trasferring over . Analag must use the RCA cable connects and must be caputured over to the computer, bandwidth is not the same and thus thogh the foramt is RAW uncompressed AVI, it does not compared to the RAW uncompressed AVI from a DV cam. DVD simple trounces it, but analog cams are cheaper.
