why dont I get 5.1 audio?

the dvd case says it has a 5.1 audio track

I am running it through a cheap HTIB setup (curtis)

am I not getting 5.1 because the box lies and the dvd has no 5.1?

or more likely because the curtis stinks at decoding it

I have gone through the audio settings and there is only 2 channel audio track on the DVD

the box lies! Dont know you need to to buy a fiber optics cable or a orange coaxil cable to get 5.1 & go into your dvd menu and activate the surrrond sound.,monster cable way over priced.circuit city sell cables made by george lucas THX..any other questions feel free to email me..... Either the disc doesn't contain a 5.1 audio track, or it's in a format not supported (although highly unlikely) by your equipment Several reasons why you don't get 5.1, and yes one of them could be that Curtis sucks at decoding your DVDs but not likely if it is supposed to.

Let's go through a check list to see if we can find the source of your problem.

Is your DVD set up to process 5.1 DVDs? ON the back of some DVD players there is a switch to tell your player if your receiver processes digital or analog signals, make sure it is set to send the correct signal to your receiver. Also in the DVD player set up menu, audio set up it will ask what kind of signal can it process (Pcm/bitstream) or something like it, make sure it will play bitstream as it's default. Check you DVD player owner's manual to make sure.

Does your Curtis have the words Dolby Digital or DD on it, if it does not then it is not made to process 5.1 sound, which then it is why your are not getting 5.1 sound The origional film would have had 5-1 surround sound.The disk you have is a copy with only 2 channel stereo sound on it.If it doesn't give you 5-1 option in the Dvd setup then you are out of luck on this disk.Hope this answers your question.
