why do my speakers crackle and pop when starting a dvd in pro logic II?
When I start up my receiver and start a dvd when the discs menu starts up in pro logic II my speakers pop and crackly and sounds like they are going to explode. Once i start the movie and the sounds switches over to dolby digital it all stops and everything is fine. Does anyone know why this happens and how I might be able to correct it?

A.) It happens initially when the menu starts up in Pro Logic II mode, but stops. As suggested by the question...
A lot of a/v recievers do not have supression filters to prevent the pop and crackling sounds of the output relays either turning on, or switching as you mention when it possibly switches from 2 to 5 channel surround, or from 5 to 2 channel sound, etc. ~sigh~ It's just a cheap a/v receiver... you're not alone.

B.) It happens all the time, constantly, while looking at a disc menu in Pro Logic II mode... as potentially suggested by the wording in the dialogue.
If it's only happening in a single mode, and not all the time when it switches modes, then there's likely a problem with that mode. Is it across all the channels, or isolated to a set of speakers... example, front left and right, center only, sub only, etc... you'll need this information anyways when you call the manufacturer, or return it. Isolate the circumstances it's occuring under.
Is this while making adjustments to the system through different screens while on the menu? Or if it's just continuous as would be outlined when you say it 'all stops' when it switches modes, then something can still be considered faulty.
