why do most urc, only operate certain buttons on a surround sound system .?
i bought a universal remote control to operate my maxim mx11-23 dvd & amplifier surround sound system . It only operates certain buttons but not vital ones such as menu & options . could anyone suggest a URC that just deals in dvd remote controls?

here is one that i have i got it at magnolia home theater Universal Remote Control Complete Control Universal Remote model # MX-3000 its awsome .... i control everything with it...... even menus and special functions on my denon
now dont get confused ... the company is called Universal ..... I personnaly use the Logitech Harmony 880. Best remote period. Online programming and the ability to learn any remote you currently have. Check it out. Make sure you try the 'Test Drive' feature to ensure compatability. Look for Logitech "Harmony " remote which can operate full functions on most home entertainment devices.In fact I use my Harmony 890 model on 6 different components like Sony TV, Panasonic DVD player,Harman Kardon receiver,JVC VCR,LG DVD recorder & HD Sattelite Receiver To answer your question, its most likely because the manufacturer of the remote did not add the IR code for all of the buttons on your surround sound system.
Yes, Logitech makes a great universal remote which is extremely easy to setup.
The MX3000 is a very expensive remote compared to other universal remotes and is extremely difficult to setup for a novice. I have one, and its wonderful, but the setup time for a fairly basic home theater takes hours if done correctly.
