THX is the trade name of a high-fidelity sound reproduction system for theatrical movie theaters, screening rooms, home theaters, computer speakers, gaming consoles, and car audio systems. To answer your question, Dolby Digital is the only soundsystem really available commercially. The other alternative is in theaters, and it's called DTS. That's Dolby's rival. Both of the soundsystems can be THX certified. So if you get a Dolby system with a THX label, you'll have a good setup.
