which is better quality video-s or SCART for dvd playing to tv?

I'd like to clarify some of the comments saying that you should use gold plated connectors and oxygen free cable - regarding gold plated connectors, only get those if your devices also have gold plated sockets and not nickel. If they are not, then apparently the different metals will possibly corrode the nickel metal.

Also, to make it easier to read, the order of analogue video quality is something like this (worst to best):

RF - aerial :)

"Normal" SCART (same quality as a 'composite' connection).

S-Video - a 4 pin rounded connector

RGB SCART

Component (3 cables I think)

This is completely ignoring the audio connectors available. If you mean S-video- SCART is better in my OPINION! Video S gives a better image quality (barely noticable difference though). But SCART is far more convenient. Just one connector - plug and play. I'd stick with SCART. SCART for sure. TV may not always support video-s scart

s-vhs was developed as a way to get better quality VHS video signal to your TV.

the best quality signal is via an RGB connection, which is incorporated into the scart connections. SCART is ok .. but try "Optic" ...if your equipment has the out-put for it... Its way better with a 7.1 sound system ... Try it mate its Great.. ( Oh ..and use "Oxygine Free" cable " and Gold Leads ) S-video is better than composite, but RGB is better than S-video. you will have to check the setup menus on player and tv to make sure it's enabled. Optical is only for audio. You have more than those 2 choices, you can choose S-VHS, or Scart, with a fully wired 21 pin lead, not one of those you can buy at Comet or Curry's, they are crap, go to a proper specialist, or even better contact a company called Keene Electronics or Lektropaks, they will make one to your spec, with Gold plated connectors and oxygen free silver cable, and the other option is Component Cable, which is really the best of all, if your equipment has these inputs and outputs, go for this option, component is just the video signal, make sure that you polish the screen otherwise you may not notice the difference. Depends on if your going to use the RGB part of the Scart or Composite. Most DVD players have an RGB output wired on the Scart and most TVs have one of their Scart inputs wired as RGB so that is the best input to use, however if you are using a Sky/Freeview box on the RGB input then use S-Video (otherwise known as Y/C) out of the DVD player. scart cable are best in my experience. your almost always guaranteed a good picture and quality. also its easy to apply.
