which dvd players support .avi files?
i have a dvd-ns400d by sony but i dont think it supports .avi files. so i was wondering which dvd player i should buy that supports .avi files.

There's a handful that do. I think the one that's reasonably price and gets pretty good reviews is the Phillips DVP642. Check it out on Amazon -- under $50. Even if it only work for a small number of your AVI files, that's not a bad deal.

It is a yes and no question. In the world of AVI files, there many different types, much like there are different types of cars. There might be around 5-10% of today's DVD players that support a format called "Divx". Divx is a type of an AVI file.
If you can find a DVD player that supports Divx and you can find a Divx file, then you got it made. You can burn it to a CD and you can watch it on your TV. If you don't have one or the other, then you are stuck watching it on your computer.
Divx is one of the most popular AVI formats on the web, so you should not have trouble finding them. Also, if a DVD player supports Divx, it will advertise it as a selling point. There are not too many out there. Search for them and read their features on these websites...
