which dvd players is best? HD or blue-ray?

As you can see opinion is divided. I am not a fan-boy of either camp. Personaly I think Blue-Ray will win out, eventialy, because of its larger storage capacity and the fact that Sony has the rights to a lot of movies through ownership of production companies. However Blue Ray is pushing the current boundries of technology, its more at the bleeding edge then HD. So, development-through-time wise, its behind the HD camp by several months. However you are talking about a standard that is going to last many years, not a few months, so I see this as only a short-term blip. The Blue Ray definately, it will give you HD quality and is much better laser. The laser is much smaller and precise, excellent quality. The HD is cheaper to make than the blu ray thats why Toshiba isn't giving up the fight.The Blu ray may store a lot of files but it is very tough to make it.Given a choice i will go for the HD cause its gonna be cheap and available. Blue Ray seems to be the best quality but I'd wait a bit on purchasing one. Toshiba has a new DVD format that they want to release and you don't want to buy something that might fail in the market. Remember the large movie laser disc that came out around the time of DVDs? It was better quality but didn't last very long. Blue Rays hold so much info that it is really overkill for DVD players and you have to upgrade you DVD players and drives in your computer to use them. It's up for debate, but I promise the debate will not be decided before 2007. Stay away from either until at least next year, unless you are purchasing a PlayStation 3. Blu-ray Definitely NOT BluRay at this time. Read the reviews: the initial models of BR have real picture quality problems. On the other hand, HD DVD has an outstanding picture, the best source for HD available today (better than broadcast). There are also operational problems and bugs yet to be worked out on both players. No doubt these will eventually be resolved, and the final condition will be that there won't be a difference in picture quality or ease of operation or reliability. Basically, it is too early to make a decision; give it at least 6 mo before things settle out. Unfortunately, BR is off to a rocky start: more expensive player ($1000 vs $500) and poorer picture quality.
