whats the difference between dolby through coaxial and analog?

i am looking to buy a dvd player to connect with my 5.1 channel audio speakers by creative Inspire 5.1 (http://creative.com/products/product.asp...

. i found this a sony dvd player (http://www.circuitcity.com/rpsm/oid/1462... which seems to be the one but i am confused whether it will work with my audio system since the dvd page says "digital coaxial output" while my audio system has "analog inputs". i dont understand what type of speaker system would work with the sony dvd player? can you please give an example? and also whats the difference between coaxial and analog?

The Sony player that you have referenced will not give you a surround sound output that is compatible with your speakers. The Sony model DVP-NS90V does have the type of 5.1 analog outputs that you need to connect to your creative system. See the link below for a description "mini to rca" of the cables that you will need to buy to connect the DVD Player to your system. Other DVD players will work also as long as the have a "5.1 analog output". An optical or coaxial digital output will not work for your specific system as this type of output is intended for a standard surround sound home theater system such as denon, yamaha, harman kardon, etc. The creative system will work with an appropriate DVD player, but it is really intended to be connected to a computer with a surround sound output which would match the audio format and connections found on this speaker system. Coaxial digital and optical digital carry digital signals. You need a digital output from the DVD player to get DD5.1 or DTS. Analog (2-channel, Red + White) only carry stereo signals, but some receivers can "matrix" or interpolate surround sound from this.
