whats the difference between Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround?
I know that (1 + 5 = 6) for "6.1" so (2 + 5 = 7) means that should be "7.1" but it's NOT...The 2 REAR speakers in a "7.1" system are in MONO...They make the SAME noises at the SAME time...And 2 speakers making the same noises sound like JUST ONE speaker.
That's why NO ONE makes DVDs with "7.1"...There is NO "7.1"...You can hook up ALL 7 speakers but you'll only HEAR 6 channels...Not until HD-DVD and BLU-RAY start doing it next year.
But make sure and check for the "5.1" on your movies you buy...With the "Dolby Surround" you don't know what you're getting. Dolby digital surround is really for 2 speakers, just to produce a more ''surround'' sound than the tv. Dolby digital 5.1 is for, 2 front speakers, 2 rear speakers, 1 centre speaker (hence the 5) and the .1 is for the sub woofer. (5.1 speaker sound). This is meant to give you a better audio experience because the sound is potentially projected from all angles, making it seem more real, like 3D sound if you like.
