what is the maximum length a run of component viedo cable should be?

I have a run of component video cable going from my reciever to the projector mounted on the ceiling. the cables are 25' length. The problem is, when an image consisting of bright white material ( snow or a flash) my Infocus 4805 drops the video signal out and says "searching for signal" what gives ???, it does not do this with an s-video or composite feed.

25 feet shouldn't be a problem. In any case, the symptoms do not sound anything like what would be caused by excessive length. If your cables were too long, you would see loss in fine detail. 50 feet do you really have to run 25 feet. try a lesser amount or go back to using the s- video cable, if it worked better why change it. 3 meters (10 feet) is the accepted maximum run for a component video signal before it encounters too much resistance. After that, the timing goes out and the cable picks up RF interference and causes video distortions and noise. This is showing up on your whites.

You can cure the problem by using some high end, high definition cables. These would cost around $300 to $400 for a 25 foot length. Something in Monster's 300 or 400 series or some Kimber Kable should do it.

These are heavy, low resistant cables that should still be close to 75 Ohms even in that length. i will agree with gary on that matter.

However there is 2 other ways of doing it.

a. Use repeaters/boosters

b. Divide the length into two and use 2 repeaters/boosters.
