I have that problem all the time man, first take the dvd and clean it off with windex making sure it doesn't streak. If problem persists clean the dvd with a eye cleaner. If still problem then it's the dvd and it's scratched beyond play. It's either scratched or not a good enough pirated copy! I would recommend either purchasing a copy of the DVD or asking the guy that sold it to you to burn a new copy and test it before they give it to you this time. it's probably just dirty. try cleaning it with a lint free cloth. if that doesn't work, it might be scratched. Annoying, isn't it? I play another DVD to see if the DVD player is the problem; it usually isn't. Then I play the defective DVD in another player (e.g., my computer, a friend's DVD player). Sometimes the "defective" DVD will play, sometimes not. If the problem is definitely the DVD itself, I go to DVD websites and message boards to see if anyone else has the same problem with that particular DVD title. Based on that research, I'll either exchange the DVD for a good disc, or just live with it. Fortunately, this doesn't happen very often. (All this assumes the DVD is neither a bootleg nor dirty or scratched.) Its most likely got a good scratch on it. In this case there is nothing you can do except buy a new one. If it is just dirty just clean it with glass cleaner. It most likely stopped because it can't read the data in that spot on the disc. My player I have does this same thing, if I let it go for awhile it will play at the next spot on the disc that is good.
