Satellite speakers are part of a sub-sat system. Satellite speakers require the use of a sub-woofer to create the entire frequency spectrum. 5.1 is basically a sub-sat system with five channels of satellite frequency speakers and one channel of sub frequency which perfectly describes the system you are looking at.
