Mounting a TV above a fireplace is a bad idea. Is this a fireplace that you use? Does the fireplace have a mantle? All fireplaces at one time or another have back draft. Do you want smoke and heat all over your very expensive TV? The most common mistake people make when hanging a TV on the wall is placing it too high. The TV should be placed so that the center of the screen is at eye level when seated. Placing a TV above a fireplace mantle will make it way too high. Although mounting the TV to a masonary or brick surface is a relatively minor obstacle, how do you plan on hiding the wires? You will need to somehow get power, coax, DVD signal (RGB or HDMI), to the TV as well as audio from the TV to your sound system. LCD is the best choice, but make sure that there

is little if no heat escaping to that location otherwise

V i e w i n g ! LCD is good up to about 32" I would go with plasma beyond that. You should have no troubles having your screen mounted there however, you should take in to consideration wire routing. heat and lcd dont mix Also like some of the other guys, I'm not a big fan of mounting above a fireplace due to height, but also because if you use the fireplace the heat dispersion from it can damage the set, and if you need to get it repaired, that is not covered under warranty. In many manufacturer's warranties it plainly states that if you mount on/near a fireplace your warranty will be void if the fireplace is used.
