Will connecting a fiber optic land line to my existing coaxial cables improve the picture of my 50&q

I am currently using a component video cable to connect from wall outlet to the TV which has a built in tuner. Would it materially improve the picture if I swtiched to DVI cables?

Perhaps, but I don't know if it would be worth the hassle and

expense. It would be more beneficial to go to full 1080p HDTV.

Also 1080p (progressive scanned picture) is better then 1080i (interlaced picture) you'll see why. From a Dish net installation satellite tech. If you only have coax in the walls, fiber optic from the wall to the TV won't any noticeable difference. To maintain the best quality, just find some high quality coax like Monster Cable or something. Depends how far you are from the telco central office (CO). Within 1/4 mile, probably. Otherwise, stay with what ya got - unless it really is bad to start with.

Talk, too, with your hardware provider (i.e. wherever you bought your TV) - they should know this in spades. Do have cable or just basic network TV? Where does the wall outlet lead to (a roof antenna? or is it cable?)... Based on what I think you're saying is that DVI should help, because compont video is lossy - meaning it degrades the signal being input into your TV. DVI cables help preserve the quality of the digital HD signal being broadcast (right now I think you can get a few channels in HD without a cable subscription - NBC, CBS, Fox, etc...). However, I don't know if DVI can carry audio. If this is the case, you may need a seperate digital audio cable (I've been told that digital coaxial is fairly close to digital optical/fiber optics in quality)... Also, review sites like CNET have said that expensive brand name cables aren't that much better (like Monster). I think you are confusing a few different technologies. From what it sounds like is that you have a TV with a builtt in tuner and you have a coaxial cable going from the wall to the TV. You are then using the TV to decode the signal. If this is the case then you couldn't change the cable and still use the buil in tuner of the TV.

The only other way to hook it up would be to use a cable box from your cable provider. On the back of your cable box you will have different options. Usually component video and DVI or component video and HDMI. HDMI and DVI are always better than component, although many people cannot see the difference.
