Will Universal Remotes program a vcr to record?
I have a Phillips vcr/dvd player combo hooked up to a Sharp TV. I have a Radio Shack Low Cost 3 in 1 Universal Remote, M3210A. I can get the remote to power on/off both the tv and the vcr, play, rec, etc. for vcr, volume control for the tv, and menu for the tv. But when I try to program the vcr to record at a later time or date, I can only get to the menu, and then it doesn't work any more. When I push the < > buttons, nothing happens.

You may want to try a different code, if there is more than one code listed for your equipment, in the user’s manual. Often there are more than one code listed for a particular manufacture. What happens when we program the remote we stop at the first one that shuts the system off, per the instructions. Some codes will allow the remote to work only certain functions, and appear to be correct. Sometimes there is another “more correct” code for the unit. If you continue to have problems you can also contact Radioshack or Radioshack unlimited. They often add new codes and custom tweaks they can do for you over the phone. Try pressing different buttons, my universal remote does that too.
