Why wont some dvd players play my burned dvds and some will?

my playstation will play all of my burned dvd's - i had a portable dvd player that will play all of my dvd's. but the 2 newest dvd players that i bought (they say the can play dvd-r divx and all of that) will not play most of them or will skip really bad. Is there some kind of Protection device built into new players that will prevent burned dvd's from playing properly ?!? And what do i need to look for in the next one i buy so they will play (Other than dvd-r etc. i now that much) .. .. .. THANKS

Every DVD player is different, but you can always rely on a good ol' Playstation :D The best thing you can do is buy the cheapest DVD player around and you will usually find that they will play absolutely anything!! Sometimes, there is a protection. Like with the playstation, to play the burned games, you needed to chip it so it read them. Other things can be the file extension of the movie you are trying to play. If you are sure your DVD player SHOULD be able to play it, try burning at a very low speed. It seems like the more expensive the dvd player is more likely it won't play burn dvds.

I would say stick with the cheap ones. The cost at the most is 30 and I promise it will play all of you burned dvds.. good discussion topic, i have open one slot for your discussion among my forum members.
