Why should I buy a HD-DVD/Blu-Ray player?

Or, if you're into gaming, get the Sony PlayStation 3. This is currently the cheapest way to get into Blu-ray. You'll get the latest and greatest game console ever and you can jump right into the high-def world with Blu-ray discs (the Sony PS3 doubles as a Blu-ray player).
Both HD-DVD and Blu-ray players will upconvert your existing DVDs to 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. This will make your existing movie collection look better than it ever did.
If you're only a casual DVD watcher and are totally satisfied with their picture quality, then there is no need for you to buy an HD-DVD or Blu-ray player. Before you make this decision, however, go to your local Best Buy and ask to see a high-definition picture.
You can't sit always sit and wait for the next big thing, because when that comes out, there will be something bigger and better around the corner.

Note that the correct name for a Blu-ray disc is exactly that. Do not call them Blu-ray DVDs as some out there are doing.
Alra111 If you have a SDTV, don't waste your money as it will look the same as DVD. If you have a HDTV then you can consider if you want to watch some of the movies that are available:

However everyone who gets a PS3 will automatically have Blu-ray, and everyone with an Xbox 360 can get a HD DVD drive for $199 later this month.
