Why is my surround sound shutting off?

Everytime I'm playing a movie on DVD, and a big sound happens my surround sound goes off. Like I powered it off by remote and I have to reset it by manually turning it off and on.

Help, is it a fuse, a short, do I need a new surround sound?

Great Question and thank you for participating in Yahoo's Q & A. Without knowing if you're refering to your computer system or your home Dvd player, I'll try to hit on both. If you're problem is with your home system, you need to know that todays standards are in the process of making a huge change from analog to digital, promising an easy transition for us all. What a laugh. I sell all of your equipment retail and I assure you, there's nothing easy about it when it comes to the prices. Their normal $5 yellow video cable has now changed to an HDMI Cable at $149. If you're wanting to watch movies on your tv and listen to it thru your home surround sound system, you'll find that by using digital audio cables instead of the Red and White RCA Cables, as they will shut down the audio because of the high demands that strong bass frequencies produce. If however, you're problem is with your personal computer and it's audio system, first of all, make very sure that you're hooking up your cables to the correct places on your sound card. The older cards used pink for microphine, green for stereo applications and any other color input on the card for any auxillary equipment that you might want to hook into the computer, like a musical keyboard. The Aux jacks sometimes require you to "assign" them to particular applications before they'll work properly. If you dont tell it that you want to use the blue jack for your dvd player, keyboard, etc., it doesnt know and won't set itself up to work properly. If all of these situations have been checked and seem to be ok, your last resort before replacing the sound card is to update the drivers and software by simply going to it's manufactures web site and searching for your precise brand, model number etc. After the download, be sure to restart the computer so that the new changes can take effect. Larry Radio Shack 01-9590 maybe the receiver needs a new power supply, but don't take my word for it, just a guess. Sounds to me like the speakers are too small for the receiver. Try turning the sound down a few notches and see if that works.. It sounds like you've got a wire issue. Meaning that somewhere you've got a wire backwards, or touching together.
