Why is my dvd player playing music but not voices?
I have a bni DvD player and for some reason it plays some DVDs with the music loud but no vocals or vocals quiet. My mum reckons its only started happening since we got a new tv (and changed stuff around) can anyone help suggest a solution?

My bet is that when you hooked up your new TV you knocked the center speaker wire loose. Check the speaker conections and try again. The above answer is correct in that most movie dialog comes from the center channel. did you connect the wires properly?? that's probably why it's not working. its broken. get it looked at by a profesional, or take it back(inotherwords, get a new one) Many DVDs have a "music only" option as an alternative soundtrack in their extras menus. Somehow your DVD player is playing this as the default soundtrack - I would try to change the settings to see what happens.
Alternativly your DVD player is playing your DVDs as if you had 5 speaker surround sound and not 2 speaker sterio and as such is not playing the voices. Again I would try to change the settings.
I hope this helps. The new TV might be a clue - look at the sound settings on the TV - most have voice and music settings. Switch to the channel your DVD is on - usually AV1, and select the Sound menu on your TV. If set to music, voices can be a bit low - try Voice setting if available, or alter treble to about 2 thirds and bass to less than half way.
Another thing could be the sound output settings on the DVD player - check they match what your TV needs. Good Luck. if you have suround sound... it might be that your didnt connect the center speaker... thats where almost all the volcals come from... IF the DVD audio goes to both the television and an amplifier you need a buffered y-cable. Otherwise, pick one or the other for your DVD audio. make sure everything is in go through the set up all again check the volume menu and wires
