Why don't i hear sound from all the speakers?

I have a toshiba satellite laptop hooked up to a Panasonic 5.1 surround sound system through the headphone jack and the aux output on the receiver. I am using a split wire so both outputs are filled. I only hear sound out of the front three speakers and the sub. i dont hear anything from the two rear speakers. What can i do to fix this problem?

If so, you just need to turn your REAR speakers on your PANASONIC up a little bit...Or maybe just change the SURROUND PERIMETER from "stereo" to "surround".

You have to tell it HOW MANY speakers you want running on EACH input...Just because you set "5 speakers" for the DVD or the VCR doesn't mean that's what it'll do for your LAPTOP. If you're not furnishing true 5.1 audio from the laptop to the receiver, you'll have to set the receiver to one of the synthesized surround modes. Read the Panasonic manual... it will tell you how to do this. Your output feed is only stereo.It cannot give you surround sound.The only surround sound sources are;

1) DVD Player with Digital Coaxial or Optical digital output.

2) HD box of the cable or satellite service provider on some HD channels thru Digital Coaxial or Optical digital output

All others sources including CD's are recorded in stereo and will play front speakers only
