Why do dvd players mess up so much ?

I can play a brand new dvd and it still freezes.. my friends freezes they all freeze.. I miss the VHS days in a way.. buy not the rewind and fast forward feature on them lol..

I think they mess up, so we can keep on buying them. But i still have my VHS somewhere. I always look at a disc before I put it in the DVD player, CD player or computer and make sure there is no foreign material. Even small pieces of lint or hair will build up and have an effect on the player after time. Make sure there aren't any peanut butter sandwiches jambed inside....OH wait, that was with my old VHS. Gotta watch those kids all the time. Tracking. just like an old record, the info is in spiral lines,, but super tiny when compared with a record, stayiong on track isn't easy, and it's done mechanically, nylon worm screws and servo motors, controlled by a small computer chip. your dvd's do that because they are either dirty or skid marks or the laser itself has been in contact with dirt from a disc you may have or the laser is so sensitive to the smallest amount of dirt that it will just freeze up
