Why are LCD TV better than the plasmas?

Answers:

If you think LCD's have better pictures than Plasmas then you are looking at cheap, consumer grade Plasmas.

The professional Plasmas that we use are absolutely brilliant and vibrant, but not too many folks want to shell out $13,000 and up for those that we use.

In the consumer market, LCDs are more practical and do not develop as much heat (speaking of both in their consumer grade versions). The Plasmas we use are warm, but don't put off as much heat as their consumer grade cousins.

The introduction of DLP technology is the way to go now. Compare units with DLP side by side with non-DLP and you will see the difference.

In the past, the easiest way to determine the quality of any of the big flat screens was to walk toward the side of the units and see how much destortion developed as you moved further away from the center. The lower quaility models blurred easily and lost their brightness.

DLP is changing all of that quickly.

I hope this helps. Not really sure. I think the LCD is clearer than the plasma. becuase they are cool and dont burn in and because they have more clarity or something... who knows. I think LCD gives a brighter, sharper picture over plasma. LCDs are also lighter and use less energy than plasmas. Plasma tubes also slowly de-gas over the years, causing the picture to become progressively darker, and although this process takes years to become noticeable it is irreversible.

Plasmas have better black levels and are less expensive, however, but even that is changing as new technologies are coming out. They draw considerably less power. But LCD TV's are difficult to make in the larger sizes. LCD is more versitile in light placement. Plasma is recommended to put it in a place with alot of light, in dark the colors don't show as well. Also, Plasmas are harder to move from place to place because if you lie it horizontally, you can leak out the gas (plasma) in the tv which can never be replaced, so you have to replace the whole tv. LCD's are better because they use a light bulb to project the image. Plasma TV's use a pixel based projection which has a certain "life" of such. LCD TV's give a better resolution and have an infinite life of the system, while plasma TV's have a distinctive lifespan of the projection that they provide. Typically the life of a plasma TV has 9000 hours and after this is exhausted, there is not remedy. LCD TV's are limited to the life of the bulb that projects the image, however the bulb can be replaced indefinitely. plasma tv's burn in a picture in 5 minutes, that means that if you are playing a video game for instance, and you have lets say a health bar on the bottom of your screen, when you turn your tv off, that health bar will be there forever. thats bad.. and annoying, lcd's dont do that after hours on end, they will eventually do it, but no where near the time that plasmas will. that and lcd's picture is clearer Hi. Forget about LCD and Plasma, they will soon be replaced with newer technology screens. LASER TV is supposed to be available at the end of the year.S.E.D. (Surface-conduction Electron-emitter Display ) TV is not far behind laser tv.And also being developed is CARBON NANOTUBE . So we will have three new HD TV technologies to worry about which one to get And of course we already have 3D TV. Where will it all end? I think plasmas have a better picture and contrast ratio than lcd's. Lcd have a "screendoor effect" which is where you can see each individual pixel...in a sense like looking through a screendoor up close. If only plasma had a longer life span and didn't burn in I think plasma would be by far better, if you could afford to replace it every 5 years or so. But 10,000- 50,000 hours is a lot of viewing time. Some of the above answers are hilarious; especially the one poster who said you get burn in on plasmas in 5 minutes. Wow. Really? Jeez, so much misinformation abound.
